A wide range of fishing options

Canterbury in New Zealand has a fantastic range of fishing options. Your hosts at Claremont luxury lodge accommodation will be glad to help organise fishing on your behalf but advanced booking is essential.

Fishing trips are generally for a full day and are limited to two persons per guide. Our experienced professional fishing guides will develop tailor-made fly fishing trips to suit your skills and experience. We can also arrange sea fishing if this is your preference.

Your guide will make a judgement, on the day, as to the best location. This is based on his local knowledge, the river conditions and the weather forecast. You will be collected from Claremont, provided with all gear (except waders) and taken to where the fishing is likely to be best.

The usual New Zealand trout fishing season commences October 1st and ends April 30th which coincides with the high season at the lodge. Whilst there is a winter season between these times weather conditions can be unpredictable. Please note that a New Zealand Fishing Licence is required and the guide will usually arrange this on your behalf. Some guides include the licence in their charge, others do not.
