Hanmer Springs thermal pools and spa

Hanmer Springs thermal pools were voted "the best visitor attraction" at the 2004 and the 2005 NZ Tourism Awards. Recently they have benefited from a multi-million dollar upgrade. An excursion to Hanmer Springs Alpine village is a drive of about 50 minutes and in addition to the popular pools there is a variety of outdoor activities and cafes.

At Hanmer Springs thermal pools and spa you can unwind the way you want to - from relaxing in the natural environment of the thermal pools to splashing your way through some serious waterslide fun. The thermal waters contain a wide variety of minerals including sulphur, sodium chloride, calcium, carbonates, magnesium, potassium and others. The waters are reported to offer great relief to those suffering from arthritis and similar ailments.

For ultimate indulgence try a sauna or steam bath. These private units contain their own shower and changing area and freshwater plunge pool. They can be booked out for 1/2 - 1 hour periods. Other facilities include a 25 metre freshwater heated pool and the newly completed Spa facility provides massage and beauty treatments. Pre-booking is desirable.
